The disembodied footsteps of a woman in high heels can be heard in the corridors of Larsen Hall. They are most often reported in the section of the building used as the college health service. The 3rd floor of this building is also haunted by another ghost nicknamed Gertrude. Her mischievous presence is blamed for drawers being rifled through, prank fire alarms, and missing stuff. People have reported missing pieces of clothing, and find them sometimes replaced with items from another era. Gertrude is said to be a Decorah high school graduate who wanted to attend the school before women were allowed to attend. She died in 1918, when she was struck by a vehicle as she rode her bike down West Broadway.

Coe College – Cedar Rapids, IA

A ghost called Helen is said to haunt this campus. The young coed died from influenza in 1918 and her spirit is alleged to have taken up residence in an old grandfather clock in Voorhees Hall, which was her previous dorm. The clock had been donated to the college by Helen’s folks. At night, her spirit left the clock and played the piano in the parlor or walked the steps to her old room on the second floor. Late at night, the white apparition would appear at the foot of students’ beds. Sometimes it slammed doors or pulled off the bedcovers. When the clock was moved to Stuart Hall in the early 1970s, the spooky manifestations started to take place there.

When Voorhees Hall was remodeled in 2000, one of the architects who was taking pictures for the renovation made it a point not to take pictures of students. A student showed up in one image however. The strange photo shows a student sitting on a staircase. The staircase landing in the photo was the one just outside what was once the infirmary.

Santa Barbara City College is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman in a white shawl. The mysterious apparition has been seen close to an ocean bluff on the campus.

Several students have reported seeing the image float over the lawn about six inches off the ground. Witnesses say that when the floating phantom reaches the edge of the cliff, she disappears in a blue flash of light.

No one is sure who she is or why she haunts the location.

The California State University Sacramento theater is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young man who died accidentally when the building was being built. During the construction, the young man fell from the second floor onto the steel girders and was impaled. Reportedly, his presence has been felt near the elevator that runs between the scene shop and the costume shop, on the catwalks, and in the light booth. The elevator is behind the main stage in the scene shop and runs up to the costume shop on the second floor.

The McCluer Senior High School in Florissant, Missouri is seems to be haunted by long time former residents. The Taille De Noyer building is said to be the most haunted building on campus . Witnesses have reported seeing apparitions dressed in clothes that appear to be from the early 1800’s. This school was built in 1798 and is located in a northwestern suburb of St. Louis off I-270.

This college has a number of haunted places including a locked-up bathroom on the fourth floor of St. Charles Hall where a male student slipped and hit his head against the sink then later died of a cerebral hemorrhage. Red stains remain in the sink and the rumors of the haunting prompted the college officials to seal up the room.

A second student was said to have committed suicide by jumping out of a window at the top of the north stairwell in St. Charles Hall. The student is said to be seen repeating his death over and over…

Located in Seattle, Washington and built in 1907, the Seattle Central Community College was originally called Broadway High School and then the Burnley School of Professional Art before it became the South Annex of Seattle Central Community College in 1986. During the Art School years, students reported encountering several spirits as well as objects appearing out of thin air. Psychics investigated and each made contact with the spirit of an eighteen-year-old young man who had been a student at the high school in 1913. He was killed during a fight in the old third-floor gymnasium after a basketball game. The spirit has been given the nickname of Burnley.

This building is located on the corner of Broadway and Pine in the Capitol Hill district of Seattle.

Her spirit moves silently from room to room, making sure doors are locked, turning stereos and TVs off and on, and generally behaving like a housemother from the Other Side. In 1981, one of the girls left her door slightly open late one night, and the apparition drifted into the room as if it were checking on her. According to legend, Mary is the spirit of a counselor bludgeoned to death by a crazed custodian on the 3rd floor of Pemberton Hall in the 1920’s.

The historic Reynolds College in Denver, CO is haunted by Madge Reynolds, who had an adulterous love affair with Denver Post owner Fred Bonfils. She collapsed and died in her bedroom after returning from a horseback ride with Bonfils. Ever since, her white ghost is seen in the rooms on the north side of the house.
